Let’s begin!

NOSE

  • ROW #1: Ch 4, 2DC into the 4 ch from the hook. (Before completing the last loop of the DC change your colour)

=[3]

HEAD

Turn your work after each row.

  • Row #2:  {Ch3, DC into each stitch, 1 DC into the last stitch which is the Ch3 from the previous row } (Note, going forward the Ch 3 will count a stitch)

=[5]

  • Row #3:  {Ch3, DC into each stitch, DC-INC into the last stitch which is the Ch3 from the previous row }

=[7]

  • Row #4: Repeat instruction in the “{ }” above

=[9]

  • Row #5: Ch3, skip the first stitch, DC into the next 8 stch

=[9]

  • Row #6: Ch 1, SC-INC, 1 SC into each stitch, SC-INC into last stitch

=[11]

(You can place a stitch marker at the end of the row. This is be to help you find the face later.)

BODY

  • Row #1: Ch 1,  Moss stitch {1 Slp, 1 HDC} repeat until the end of the row

=[11]

  • Row #2: Ch1, [1 HDC, 1 Slp} repeat until the end of the row

=[11]

  • Row #3 +: Repeat Row #1 and Row #2 until you reach the desired length.

I did about 180 rows (which measured about 50 inches long.

Note, the last row should be the same as ROW#3.

    = [11]

  • Row #X: Ch 1, 1 SC into each stich

=[11]

After this point it is recommended to switch to your 3.5 mm hook. But it is not mandatory.

LEGS

Attach your yarn in the right corner (with the wrong-side of the project facing you)

  • Row #1: Ch 3, 1 DC (x3)

    = [4]

  • Row #2: Ch 3, skip the first stitch, 1 DC(x3)

(Before you complete the last double crochet change your yarn because we will be starting on the toes)

    = [4]

For the other foot, begin by attaching your yarn 4 stitches away from the left corner. Repeat steps for Row #1 and Row #2.

TOES

Turn your work.

  • Toe 1: Ch 3, skip the first chain, slp, slp, 1 sc (in the stitch from the previous row)

  • Toe 2: {Ch 4, skip the first ch , slp, slp, slp, 1 sc (in the stitch from the previous row)}

  • Toe 3: Repeat Toe 2 .

  • Toe 4: Ch 3, skip the first chain, slp, slp, slp into the corner and ch 1 and cut your yarn.

TAIL

  • Row 1: Slip Knot, Ch 2. Into the second loop from the hook place 2 SC (the first chain will count as a stitch)

    = [3]

  • Row 2: Ch 1, 1 SC (x3). Note, the last SC will be into the top of the Ch 1 from the previous row.

    = [4]

  • Row 3+: {Ch 1, skip, 1 SC (x3)}. (Note, this method makes the edges look straighter. The last SC will go into the top of the chain 1 from the pervious row)

    = [4]

  • Row 4+ Repeat the instructions for Row 3 in “{ }” until you are satisfied with the length. I made 22 rows, or about 5.5 inches.

Ch 1 and cast off, making sure to leave a long tail that you will use to sew the tail onto the body of the rat. Sew the tail onto the rat (both the right-side of the rat and the right-side of the tail should be facing you).

EARS

  • Slip knot, Ch 2, make 6 TC into the first chain, slp to close. (Leave a long tail to sew on to the head).

ARMS

Work with the Right-side (good side) facing you.

Insert hook about 1.5 inches (or about 3 moss stitch clusters) from the top of head.

  • Row #1: Ch 4, starting from the second loop from the hook 1DC, 1DC, 1DC, Skip 1-2 stitches and then place a slp into the next stitch.

    Ch 1 and cast off.

  • Repeat this process on the other side for the second arm.

PAWS

  • Right side facing you

  • Using your pink yarn, insert into the top corner of the arm (of the chain 2 space), {Ch 3, skip the 1st Ch, slp, slp, and then slp back into the space}

  • Repeat the instructions “{ }”  3 more times, then ch 1 and cut your yarn.

WHISKERS

  • Take a 5 inch strand of yarn. Fold it in half (to equal strands) and slip knot it to the head of the mouse just above the nose.

EYES

  • Be creative! You can use buttons, thread or anything else  to create eyes.

Don’t forget to weave in your ends! And that’s a wrap!

Thanks for joining me. Come back soon for more fun patterns and all things crochet!
